Principles of Environmental Justice

Delegates to the First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit held on October 24-27, 1991, in Washington DC, drafted and adopted 17 principles of Environmental Justice. Since then, The Principles have served as a defining document for the growing grassroots movement for environmental justice.

On January 5th, 2005 the Energy Action Coalition adopted the Principles of Environmental Justice as guiding values for the coalition. By reading these principles and sharing ideas on how they can be applied to different decisions and actions of our alliance we will be better equipped to serve the value of environmental justice. As you read the principles, please feel free to express your reactions and thoughts by adding a comment at the bottom of the page.
