A guide to the ins and outs of the ClimateChallenge.org Online Community.
Getting Started
Before you can do anything on ClimateChallenge.org you have to register. The big green button that appears throughout the site will take you to the registration page where you can create your basic information. Once you register you will be able to access all the basic tools of the site...
Local Groups
Local Groups are groups that are running the challenge at their school or in their community. A group can be registered by any one and once registered can have an unlimited amount of members. The group owner can give administrative privleges to other members so that they can also edit the group and moderate other users. Groups have 4 basic tools...
- Group Profile - Uppon Registration a group profile is created and can be updated by group admins at any time. The Group profile tells the world about your group and helps others find groups they might be interested in.
- Group Blog - All group members can post to the group blog.
- Group Resources - All group members can post resources such as files or links to the group.
- Group Pages - Group members can create and edit pages to give info for the group. Pages can have comments, allowing for a basic forum structure for people to post feedback, event RSVPs and stuff like that.
- Group Email Subscriptions - Group members can elect to get updates from the group via email and if they do will recieve updates whenever new content is posted to the group. Group admins can also email their group directly without posting content.
Wiki- Sources
Wiki-Sources is a tool to allow wiki-type colaboration on resources such as organizing guides, factsheets and how-tos (just like this guide). All registered users can create, edit and add to Wiki-sources. Folks are encouraged to respect existing content and make large deletions if you have contacted the person who created the book. Adding and editing are strongly encouraged!
Power Directory
The Power Directory is a directory of resources for climate organizing. A resources can be an uploaded file or a link to an external resource. All registered users can add resources. The power directory uses a voting tool to help users seperate the good from the bad, all resource categories are sorted with the highest rated resources on top. Users can also add comments to resources, this is great if you have relevant information, or praise or critique of a resource.
Forums
All registered users can dig into the forums and pretty much do whatever they please. This is a user defined space for anything from random discussion to formal question and answer.
Calendar
The calendar on ClimateChallenge.org uses GoogleCalendars so that you can easily subscribe and have all the latest climate events added to your calendar or RSS reader. You can email events to calendar@energyaction.net and they will be added to the calendar.
