Ever wonder what a bunch of students can do to fight global warming? You've come to the right place. The National Campus Energy Challenge (NCEC) is the first of its kind, a month-long competition between high schools, colleges, and universities across the United States aimed at making energy efficiency a part of our daily lives, and mobilizing students and other citizens across the country for broader climate action. The philosophy behind NCEC is simple: to realize the full potential of our climate movement, everyone must participate. Students must set an example, even if our national leaders won't. And that's where you come in.

Each year, schools participating in the Challenge compete to achieve the greatest percent reduction in total energy use during the month of February. An organizing team at each high school, college, or university spreads the word across campus and engages fellow students, as well as faculty, staff and administrators, in the competition, highlighting simple ways to save energy. Once February is over, each campus team submits its results and the national and regional winners are determined.

Instead of comparing different schools to each other, we compare each school to its own past. This will give us a measure of the achieved climate awareness and energy action on each campus.
