We, as the up and coming generation of leaders, believe that the world needs to make immediate changes in its energy consumption in order to ensure a healthy, happy, and just future for all people. The ways we acquire and use energy must allow for pure air, water, and land and ensure the sustenance of our communities' cultures and heritage. Accordingly, the use of non-renewable, polluting, greenhouse-gas-emitting fuels must end, and the use of clean, renewable energy sources coupled with efficient energy usage must take its place.
As a cohesive team of young Virginians, we, the Virginia Climate Action Network, will help each other win climate victories in our towns and campuses and will join together to make broad and effective statewide and national change towards climate neutrality. We will stop dirty energy sources such as coal and nuclear power plants from being built in Virginia and will institutionalize clean, renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. We will make clean energy a political issue across the country and will help pass state-wide and national legislation for clean energy. We will work with communities particularly victimized by dirty energy production and use, fighting together with them to achieve energy justice. We will fight to change societal norms so that above accumulation of goods and wealth, people value ways of life that benefit community and environmental health. Above all, we will support each other in all endeavors towards a clean, just energy future.
